When I was in school I was fortunate, I wasn’t bullied (often) but I knew people that was bullied day in, day out. While not experiencing the terrors of bullying on a daily basis, I looked forward to school and still kinda miss it.

But this video shoots me back to reality and reminds me for some it’s a war zone and a terrifying experience. It is a very powerful, very captivating, and very touching video.

Real Time Imaging of Thoughts

A team of researchers have successfully demonstrated visualisation of the formation of a thought. The experiment was carried out in Zebra fish, where the researchers presented the fish with food and observed its thought process to which I can only imagine its went like: “Dayum not this processed shit again!“

The researchers developed new forms of Calcium indicators GCaMP, and GCamP7a, these indicators allow us to visualise the calcium ion status of a membrane. This is useful for studying voltage dependant calcium channels which are found in a variety of cells such as muscle cells and neurons.

Honestly, I’d need all night and a bottle of whiskey to study and explain the theory behind it and sadly I have neither. Also the result would be the same, that awesome video of a thought being formed.

Wonders

I’ve been a fan of Prof. Brian Cox’s ‘Wonders’ series (and his hair) for the past few years. Though it focused on space and our universe, which is out of my field of expertise it was still an amazing show full of wonders (eh, pun), awe, and simplistic explanations of things like gravity and what the hell is time? (it’s to do with entropy).

But starting soon is the new season called Wonders of Life (trailer included), and is something I can have a critical input on while watching. It looks fantastic, and set along with the famous Monty Python Galaxy Song.

I don’t live in the UK but if I did I would have absolutely no problem paying a TV licence for this kind of quality entertainment, because if its one thing the BBC knows, it’s how to do science.
